What happens during treatment?
First sessions generally last about 1 hour, and follow up appointments are 45 minutes.
During your first session I will take a detailed case history. This will involve not only finding out about the condition that you are coming to have treated, but also asking questions about other aspects of your health that will help me to make a diagnosis. Some of these may seem strange and unrelated (such as whether you are particularly thirsty, or whether you are a hot or cold person), but they help me to build up a picture of you as a whole person, enabling me to diagnose you in terms of Chinese Medicine.
The treatment itself will generally last for about 20 minutes.
What does it feel like?
Acupuncture needles are very fine and solid, completely different from those used for injections or taking a blood sample. Upon insertion the sensation is often described as a tingling or dull ache. People often feel more relaxed and calm following treatment.
Do I need to get undressed during treatment?
Most acupuncture points are located on the arms and lower legs, so often all that is required is to roll up sleeves and trouser legs - it can therefore be useful to wear loose clothing to your treatment.
